Free Event. The North Plains Library Director will give a presentation on what the cloud library is, how to install it on your devices and how to use it to get free e-books and audio books using your library card. He will also help members of the public who bring their own mobile devices to get up and running using the Cloud Library. http://nplibrary.org/
We are proud to announce that “Timber in the Tualatin Valley” is our new permanent exhibit, sponsored by Stimson Lumber Company! With many original artifacts on loan from local collector Bill Racine, this display aims to teach visitors about the history of logging in Washington County, from the first pioneers to railroading to gas-powered engines.
Much of the local ancestry here tracks back to the loggers of the old days, who carved out this area for homesteads and town sites beginning in the 1860s. Learn about the dangers of the job and what camp life was like for loggers through the tools they used in the woods! Feel what it is like to lay on a straw mattress in the bunkhouse, take a funny photo in our head-in-a-hole logger cutout, and learn about the area on our touch screen mapping program. Check out our calendar for upcoming talks about the industry as well! The Washington County Museum ignites the imagination and brings to life the diverse cultures that so richly define this remarkable region.
Join us at the Library on Saturday February 4 from 2 pm until 4 pm to learn about the benefits of keeping honeybees. Jeff Clark and his family keep bees in rural northern Washington County. He is the President of the Tualatin Valley beekeepers and a journeyman in the Oregon Master Beekeeper Program. This free presentation will cover:
· Hives and equipment
· Cost of getting started
· Local rules and regulations
· Resources for more information (local bee groups, and bee schools)
Come listen and ask questions to find out if beekeeping is for you!
North Plains Public Library and Tualatin Valley Beekeepers Association (TVBA) are offering a free public film screening on January 31, 2017.
MORE THAN HONEY is an international award-winning film about honey bees. It offers spectacularly beautiful film footage of bees and bee-keeping around the world, along with thought-provoking commentary on what is causing bee populations to dwindle.
TVBA will be providing popcorn, snacks, sweet treats, and seasonal beverages. Come, share and enjoy the beauty of bees and beekeeping with TVBA on this special winter evening.
Please mark your calendars and invite your friends and family to see this beautiful tribute to bees. The free film showing will be at 7pm (following a short TVBA meeting) at the Jessie Mays Community Center in North Plains.

This will be the 12th year for the Jingle. Individuals, families, friends and organizations are encouraged to decorate anything that moves and participate in the parade.
Some folks decorate trucks and trailers, others bring the family car, and many residents rent golf carts from J & S Golf Carts on Main Street at (503) 647-1984. Motorcycles and bicycles can join. It’s up to you as long as you can keep pace with the parade which moves about 10 miles an hour and have a light or two you can join.
Don’t forget – awards are given for the best decorated vehicle!
The Jingle begins and ends at Jessie Mays Community Park and the procession last about 20-30 minutes. Hot chocolate, cider, and cookies are served afterwards courtesy of the sponsor Lochlolly Christmas Tree Forest and North Plains Events Association.
